Svetlana Jakimovska Rodić – Line of a Circle
On the 11th of April the International Centre for Graphic Art in Krakow opens an exhibition by Svetlana Jakimovska Rodić – the first artist-in-residence invited to Krakow within the framework of the Password: Printmaking – an international project organised jointly by the International Print Triennial Society and five European cultural institutions: (MGLC – International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, HEA – Hablar en Arte based in Madrid, FMC – Frans Masereel Centre in Kasterlee, MMSU – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka and TPT – Tallinn Print Triennial). As a result of the call for applications announced together by the International Print Triennial Society and the Department of Printmaking of the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow for the artist coming form Slovenia, Svetlana Jakimovska Rodić was chosen to be the first artist-in-residence and spend three weeks in Krakow.

At the exhibition entitled Line of a Circle the artist will present some prints from a seriesHistory Curtains. Continuation of this series is the main goal for the three-weeks artistic residence. Linocuts on a specific type of fabric are based on motives taken from decorations of situlas made out of bronze in the Iron Age (i.e. birds, horses and deers) that artist is combining with a modern military service equipement (i.e. helicopters, armoured personnel carrier). Combination of ancient and contemporary forms tells a story about lifetime human kind worries and conflicts: a fight, a war, the intimidation and the uncertainty.

During the opening there will be a chance for viewers to see former works from the History Curtains series and at the end of the exhibition (on the 26th of April) new works from the series will be presented at the International Centre for Graphic Arts.

Svetlana Jakimovska Rodić (b. 1965) studied at the Artistic Department of the University in Skopije and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Her works were presented at more than thirty solo exhibitions. She was an artist-in-residence in Graz, Berlin, Paris and Aland Islands.
