THE INTERNATIONAL PRINT TRIENNIAL – KRAKOW 2015

The International Print Triennial – Krakow 2015 (MTG – Krakow 2015) is a globally renowned printmaking event which next year will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its existence.

The International Print Triennial – Krakow 2015 is, above all, an international printmaking competition in which 1105 artists from all around the globe participated this year. Their works – selected by the international jury – are presented at the Main Exhibition at Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art in Krakow. MTG – Krakow 2015 is also a series of exhibitions on various aspects of printmaking, both in historical perspective, as well as with the focus on the newest developments in this discipline.

Apart from the Main Exhibition, the Main Programme of the MTG – Krakow 2015 includes also the exhibition of the Grand Prix of Young Polish Print – Krakow 2015, which this year will be showcased in new exhibition spaces at the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Works presented at this exhibition were selected by the Jury from among submissions by 211 young Polish printmakers under 35 years of age. The exhibition is accompanied by a special show of the works of the laureate of the previous edition of the GPMGP – Krakow 2012: Marta Kubiak.

The Main Programme includes also exhibitions organised in collaboration with the event’s long-term institutional partners: Tabula Rasa. Joanna Janowska-Augustyn. Prints and Drawings. Grand Prix MTG – Krakow 2012 at the International Cultural Centre in Krakow, Love Affair with Graphics. From Albers to Vostell at the Main Building of the National Museum in Krakow, Spheres of Tao. Far East Graphics – Japan, Korea, Thailand, China at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, as well as the exhibition displayed at the spaces of the International Centre for Graphic Arts in Krakow under the title Behind the Curtain, showing i.a. works of artists who were members of the jury of this edition of the Triennial.

The Main Programme of the MTG – Krakow 2015 is an opportunity for representatives of various graphics-related circles to exchange their ideas, as well as to start a discussion on issues crucial for this discipline. Those will take place within the frameworks of the international symposium titled Transform or Perish? – is there still a need for specific Biennials and Triennials related to printmaking and graphic arts organised at the Hall of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow on September 19, 2015. The symposium participants will include: Richard Noyce (GB), Marina Majič (CR), Jill Parisi (USA), Alicia Candiani (AR), Endi Poskovic (USA) and Anne Seppänen (SE).

As usual, the International Print Triennial in Krakow expands its scope by including in its activities institutions from Poland and all around the world. This time, SMTG’s partners are BWA Gallery in Kielce, which for the first time organises an international competition in lithography with the participation of artists who also take part in MTG – Krakow 2015, as well as, for the third time, Dalarnas museum in Falun (Sweden), whose jury, working independently from the jury of MTG – Krakow 2015, will select works from originals sent by artists to Krakow to be displayed in Falun at the turn of 2016 and 2017.

The International Print Triennial – Krakow 2015 is also the Accompanying Programme with over 30 exhibitions in Poland and abroad organised by museums and galleries, including The Leon Wyczółkowski Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz, “Wozownia” Gallery in Toruń, The Library of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Zielona Góra, BWA Gallery in Olsztyn, as well as partners from Dresden and the United States.
