The International Centre for Graphic Arts in Krakow will host in August and September the exhibition Password: Printmaking. The exhibition will highlight a project Password: Printmaking implemented since 2012 by the International Print Triennial Society in collaboration with five European partners: Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Spain and Slovenia.
Main objective of the exhibition Password: Printmaking is to show the difference in attitude to the printmaking creative process in home countries of artists invited by curators to participate in the exhibition. The exhibition will show graphic works created using traditional techniques (woodcuts, linocuts) or digitally manipulated and works that exist only on screen. Presentation will feature selected works by artists from six Password: Printmaking partner countries, graphics which cover diverse topics from very personal matters (symbolizing internal dilemmas and subjective perception of reality) though works commenting latest political and social events (a series of works depicting Latif Yahia story – a body double of Saddam Hussein).
As states one of the curators – Marta Anna Raczek-Karcz: When I first heard about the joint project proposed by the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, I found it exciting and treated it as both a huge artistic opportunity and curatorial adventure as well as a great challenge for the International Print Triennial Society in Krakow and for all the partners involved.
Ever since the first kick-off meeting in Ljubljana, in June 2012, we have all been well aware of the impending organizational difficulties and the differences in our views on contemporary printmaking. Each of the partner institutions has its own tradition and past experience, as well as its own goals and expectations. The travelling exhibition seemed an especially challenging task, since each of us has our own interests and preferences.
After many discussions and exchanges of views, the curators all realized that it would be impossible to impose a single universal idea that would unite all the works from all the participating countries.
International Print Triennial Society in Krakow is implementing a project Password: Printmaking in collaboration with five partner institutions from Europe. (MGLC – International Centre for Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, HEA – Hablar en Arte from Spain, FMC – Frans Masereel Center in Kasterlee, MMSU – Museum of Contemporary Art in Rijeka and TPT – International Print Triennial in Tallinn).
